Google Photos Introduces Voice Editing Feature

You can now talk to Google Photos to make your edits

At Wednesday’s Made by Google event, the company announced new features in Google Photos that will allow users to ask the app to edit their pictures. This functionality is initially launching on Pixel 10 devices in the U.S., enabling users to describe their desired edits via voice or text.

Google is also incorporating support for C2PA Content Credentials, enhancing transparency regarding image creation and AI involvement, applicable even to non-AI photos taken with the Pixel camera.

The innovative “edit by asking” feature uses Gemini, allowing users to make requests like “remove the cars in the background” or “restore this old photo,” which Google Photos will execute. This tool is geared toward making photo editing accessible to users who may not be tech-savvy.

Users can request various edits, including lighting adjustments and removal of distractions, as well as creative modifications such as changing backgrounds or adding playful items to photos. The app even offers default enhancements if users are unsure of what to request.

With the planned gradual rollout of C2PA support across iOS and Android thereafter, the “edit by asking” feature is set to debut this Wednesday.
