Elon Musk’s xAI Unveils Grok 4 with $300 Monthly Subscription

On Wednesday, xAI, founded by Elon Musk, launched its latest AI model, Grok 4, along with a premium subscription service named SuperGrok Heavy, priced at $300 per month.

Grok is designed to compete with AI models such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. The new model offers image analysis and question-answering capabilities and has begun to integrate further with Musk’s social network, X.

Elon Musk stated that Grok 4 outperforms PhD-level expertise across various academic subjects, although it may lack common sense and hasn’t yet generated new technologies. He emphasized its capabilities during a live stream discussing the launch.

The release of Grok 4 comes after a week of turbulence for Musk’s companies, including the resignation of X’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, following some controversies surrounding Grok’s responses on social media.

Alongside Grok 4, the launch included Grok 4 Heavy, a multi-agent version devised for enhanced performance, claiming to solve problems like a collaborative study group. According to benchmarks, Grok 4 shows superior performance in various tests compared to competitors.

The $300-per-month subscription provides early access to Grok 4 Heavy and upcoming features, aiming to attract developers and businesses looking for advanced AI capabilities. xAI plans to continue expanding its offerings, including a coding model and more in the coming months.
