WordPress Forms AI Team to Advance Development of AI Products

WordPress announced on Tuesday that it has formed an AI team to lead the development of AI products within its developer community. The newly established team comprises key figures including James LePage, who leads AI at Automattic (WordPress’ parent company), alongside Google alumni Felix Arntz and Pascal Birchler, and Jeff Paul, Director of Open Source at web design firm 10up.

As a prominent platform for website creation, WordPress has witnessed developers in its open-source community experimenting with various AI tools. The establishment of a formal team indicates WordPress’s intention to play a more proactive role in coordinating and guiding AI initiatives among developers.

“A unified team stewards AI development thoughtfully, avoids fragmentation, and ensures alignment with the long-term goals of WordPress,” stated WordPress executive director Mary Hubbard in a blog post.

Currently, developers within the WordPress ecosystem have released 660 different AI plugins, including popular options such as AI-driven template builders, AI SEO optimization tools, and chatbots.
