xAI invests $300M in Telegram, integrating Grok into the platform

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov announced that Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, is investing $300 million in cash and equity into the messaging app.

As part of the agreement, xAI’s chatbot, Grok, will be accessible via Telegram and integrated into the platform for a year. Telegram will retain 50% of the revenue generated from xAI subscriptions made through the app.

Earlier this year, Grok was made available to Telegram’s premium users, and this new partnership suggests it may soon be accessible to all users.

A video from Durov indicated that users can pin Grok to the top of their chats and ask questions using the search bar. Additionally, Grok will offer writing suggestions, summarize chats, links, and documents, and assist businesses with questions and moderation tasks.
